You are here: Büsum

Whether you come in spring, summer, autumn or winter, a holiday in Büsum will be a holiday governed by the tides. Let yourself be inspired by the fascinating spectacle of ebb and flow. Be carried away by the charm of a fishing-village steeped in maritime tradition and awash with nautical atmosphere. And be invigorated by the healthy, reviving climate of the North Sea – an elixir for body and soul. Büsum offers relaxation, recuperation and unforgettable experiences all year round. The town was officially recognised as a North Sea health spa as far back as 1837 and, although it has since developed into a popular and lively holiday resort, Büsum has managed to retain its unspoilt fishing-village character. Just think of all the natural attractions in the area: for example a more than two-mile-long green – ideal for sunbathing – directly next to the sea, and a 25-acre sandy beach in the so-called Pearl Bay. Hire a wicker roofed beach chair, lie back and enjoy a few hours of sunbathing. But mention Büsum and most visitors will automatically think of wandering barefoot to one’s heart’s content over the miles of firm, rippled sea-bed at low tide with the kids digging for crabs and sandworms.

The parish of Büsum has only 4,800 inhabitants but there are plenty of things for the more active holiday-maker to see and do. There is the new Storm Flood World “Blanker Hans”, opened in 2006; the Pirate Sea Indoor and Outdoor Leisure and Adventure Pools "Piraten Meer"; the Health Spa and Thalasso Centre "Vitamaris" and Büsum’s fascinating Museum Harbour, home to numerous antique ships.

Büsum is also famous for the hospitality of its prim and pretty guesthouses. Its hotels are excellent and its restaurants offer all manner of culinary delights from local specialities such as shrimp sandwiches and fried plaice to international haute cuisine. If you fancy an after-dinner stroll, you needn’t go far: you can take a walk along the sandy beach, take a look at the tidal flood barrier or perhaps go in the aquarium. And if, after all that, you still haven’t had your fill of healthy North Sea air, wind, water, waves and wide-open spaces, we can whole-heartedly recommend another walk along the beach in the evening. You’ll be rewarded by another stunning, natural spectacle – the Büsum sunset!
